National Team Candidates to Hold Summer Training Camp in Pohang from August 2 to 11
Pohang Supports National Shooting Team Candidate Training for Six Consecutive Years Since 2020
The national shooting team candidates will once again visit Pohang this summer to begin intensive training in pursuit of the national team selection.
According to Pohang City, the summer training camp for the national shooting team candidates is scheduled to take place at the Pohang Indoor Shooting Range for 10 days, from August 2 to August 11.
This training is part of the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation's national team development project, organized by the Korea Shooting Federation, and financially supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation.
The candidate team was strictly selected based on the combined finals records of the top four out of seven national competitions held last year. Among them, some athletes have demonstrated such high skill levels that they have qualified to compete in the junior division of the Asian Shooting Championships, which will be held in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, starting August 16.
This training will include 44 candidate athletes selected in the air rifle and air pistol events. Under the guidance of four professional coaches, including former head coach and Olympic gold medalist Yeo Gapsun, the team will undergo systematic training aimed at improving their performance.
Since 2020, Pohang City has continuously supported both summer and winter training camps for the national shooting team candidates. The city also hosts the annual 'Chungmugi National Middle and High School Shooting Competition,' making significant efforts to nurture the future of Korean shooting.
Notably, at this year's Chungmugi competition, Ban Hyojin, who won the gold medal in the women's 10m air pistol at the 2024 Paris Olympics, claimed victory at the Pohang Indoor Shooting Range, once again proving Pohang's reputation as a cradle for shooting talent.
The city plans to continue doing its utmost to discover shooting talent and support performance improvement by attracting training camps and national competitions.
Bae Seonggyu, head of the Sports Industry Division, said, "We will spare no effort to support promising athletes who will elevate the status of Korean shooting on the world stage, ensuring they can focus on training in a safe and pleasant environment." He added, "We will also actively attract training camps for various sports, including shooting, to promote Pohang as the best destination for training camps and to contribute to revitalizing the local economy."
