Institutional Support for the AI Data Activation Strategy Implementation Plan
Gimpo City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Byungsoo) announced on July 31 that it will enact the "Gimpo City Artificial Intelligence (AI) Basic Ordinance" to establish a smart administrative system based on artificial intelligence (AI) technology and to create a citizen-centered AI ecosystem. The city will conduct a 20-day legislative notice period from July 28 to August 17.
This ordinance proposal is part of the "AI Data Activation Strategy Implementation Plan" announced by Gimpo City in early July. It is expected to serve as a key institutional measure to support AI-based innovation strategies, including the establishment of a dedicated AI organization, the enactment of the ordinance, and the construction of an AI data platform.
The ordinance includes provisions to establish and implement a comprehensive AI plan every three years; the establishment of the "Gimpo City AI Committee" to ensure fairness and transparency in AI policies; the introduction and commercialization of generative AI for automating administrative tasks and improving public services; the operation of AI education programs for public officials, citizens, and businesses; and the creation of a public-private cooperation system for the public interest use of AI.
Kim Gwangsik, Director of Future Strategy, stated, "This ordinance is the first step in establishing Gimpo City's institutional foundation to respond to the AI era," adding, "We will implement AI administrative services that simultaneously enhance administrative efficiency and the quality of life for citizens."
The city plans to accelerate its efforts to realize "Gimpo as a leading city in AI" by expanding AI utilization beyond the public sector to include greater cooperation with the private sector and increased citizen participation through the enactment of this ordinance.
