Additional Support for Lost or Damaged Assistive Devices and Dentures
Due to Heavy Rainfall in Gapyeong and Other Areas
The National Health Insurance Service announced on July 31 that it will provide additional insurance benefits for assistive devices for people with disabilities and dentures for seniors to residents of areas declared special disaster zones due to heavy rainfall.
Residents of the special disaster zones?Gapyeong-gun in Gyeonggi Province, Seosan-si and Yesan-gun in Chungnam Province, Damyang-gun in Jeonnam Province, and Sancheong-gun and Hapcheon-gun in Gyeongnam Province?who lost or damaged assistive devices for people with disabilities or dentures while evacuating due to the heavy rainfall are eligible to receive additional benefits.
Normally, assistive devices for people with disabilities (90 items) are eligible for re-benefits only after a period of 6 months to 6 years following the initial benefit, and dentures for seniors after 7 years. However, residents of these areas can receive additional benefits if the damage is confirmed, even if the benefit period has not yet expired.
As a result, people with disabilities in the affected areas can receive the same type of assistive device as originally provided, and seniors can receive support for denture costs ranging from 940,000 to 1,140,000 won.
To receive these benefits, residents must submit a certificate of damage issued by the local government to the relevant branch of the National Health Insurance Service.
