Jeonju City Recruiting Resident Writers for Jajakjajak Book Workshop

Applications Accepted Until August 21

Jeonju City in North Jeolla Province is openly recruiting the 7th cohort of resident writers for the 'Jajakjajak Book Workshop' at Wansan Library until August 21.

This recruitment aims to provide a dedicated writing space at Wansan Library, which specializes in writing, and to help both writers and citizens experience the process of creation together.

Anyone who is a South Korean national and dreams of writing, including professional writers, is eligible to apply. The city plans to select a total of 22 people, including 12 professional writers and 10 aspiring writers.

Professional writers are defined as those who have made their debut through literary media such as the New Year's Literary Contest, translators, contributors, or writers with publishing experience. Books created solely through library programs are not recognized as professional writing experience.

Aspiring writers, on the other hand, are citizens who have not yet formally debuted or published, but are preparing for steady creative activities or hope to grow as writers.

Selected resident writers will be able to use a dedicated writing space in Wansan Library free of charge. Professional writers will be provided with an independent writing room called 'JajakSasaek', a single-person room of 18 square meters equipped with a computer and a bookshelf. Aspiring writers will be assigned a seat in 'JajakIlsang', a shared creative space for 10 people.

The space can be used from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays, except for Fridays when the library is closed, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.

Resident writers are not required to pay any usage or management fees. However, they must actually use the space for at least 15 days each month and submit one piece of creative writing titled 'Geulse' based on Jeonju each month. In addition, they are required to borrow at least five books per month from Wansan Library and participate in talent donation programs for citizens.

Writers wishing to apply for residency must fill out the application form downloaded from the Jeonju Library website and submit it either online or via the designated staff email. For more details, applicants should refer to the announcement posted on the Jeonju Library website or inquire by phone.

Park Nammi, Director of the City Library Lifelong Learning Headquarters, said, "The Jajakjajak Book Workshop is a creative space open to anyone who wants to write, and we hope that this recruitment will provide more citizens with an opportunity to grow as writers."
