District Unit Plan Proposal Open for Review Until August 14
Public Facilities to Include Parking Lot and Exhibition Space

A 28-story hotel will be built in the area around Wangsimni Station, a major transportation hub in Seongdong-gu, Seoul. Seongdong-gu (headed by Mayor Jung Wonoh) announced on July 31 that from August 1 to August 14, residents will be able to review the proposed district unit plan decision for the Wangsimni Metropolitan Center District Unit Plan Area and the redevelopment of the area around 293-11 Haengdang-dong, as part of the station area revitalization project.

This proposal designates the area around 293-11 Haengdang-dong as a new district unit plan area, excluding it from the current Wangsimni Metropolitan Center District Unit Plan.

The project site covers an area of 4,994 square meters and is currently used as a privately operated parking lot. According to the plan, the site will be developed into a tourist accommodation facility (hotel) with eight basement floors and 28 above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 66,342.76 square meters.

The hotel will include 253 guest rooms, as well as convention and banquet halls, and neighborhood living facilities. Additionally, through a donation-in-kind arrangement, a public parking lot with 81 spaces will be created on the second basement level, and a public exhibition facility covering 511.6 square meters will be established on the second floor above ground.

A new two-lane road will be constructed to connect Gosanja-ro to Haengdang Market, and plans are in place to secure open public spaces and front setbacks, as well as to establish building setback lines to improve the pedestrian environment. Residents can check the details on the Seongdong-gu Office website or at the Urban Planning Department, and may submit their opinions in writing if they wish.

Wangsimni Station is a key transportation hub where four lines?the Line 2, Line 5, Gyeongui-Jungang Line, and Suin-Bundang Line?currently converge, and in the future, the Dongbuk Line and GTX-C will be added, making it an intersection of six lines.

Jung Wonoh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, "Through this station area revitalization project, we will focus on activating the streets around Wangsimni Station and introducing public facilities to the area," adding, "We will do our best to foster the area's growth into a metropolitan center where residential, commercial, business, and cultural functions are integrated."
