Discussion on Plant Relocation Roadmap Scheduled for August

Gwangju Mayor Kang Gijung Welcomes Kumho Tire Labor-Management Agreement Kang Gijeong, Mayor of Gwangju.

On July 30, Gwangju Mayor Kang Gijung expressed his "active support and welcome" regarding the announcement of a labor-management agreement that includes the resumption of operations at Kumho Tire's Gwangju Plant 1 and measures for employment stabilization.


In an official statement released on this day, Mayor Kang stated, "The Gwangju city government sincerely welcomes the announcement of the Kumho Tire 'Gwangju Plant Reconstruction Labor-Management Agreement,' which includes employment stabilization measures through the resumption of operations at Gwangju Plant 1 and the construction of a new Hampyeong plant (annual capacity of 5.3 million units) prior to the sale of the Gwangju plant site."


He continued, "Since the fire incident, the city has continuously met with both labor and management at Kumho Tire, actively supporting problem-solving efforts on the premise of employment stability for Kumho Tire workers and the development of the local economy. We will continue to provide support through ongoing communication with both labor and management to ensure the agreement is faithfully implemented."


The city plans to meet with Kumho Tire in August to discuss concrete matters, including the execution plan for the roadmap covering the plant relocation plan and the formation of a relocation support team, focusing on the contents of the labor-management agreement.


Meanwhile, Mayor Kang added, "This agreement will serve as an important turning point for the recovery of the local economy," and expressed his deep gratitude for the efforts of both labor and management toward mutual prosperity.
