CJ ENM Submits Policy Proposal to National Planning Committee: "Designate K-Content as a National Strategic Industry"

Heo Minhui Stresses the Urgency of Legal and Institutional Support

CJ ENM announced on July 30 that it had submitted a policy proposal to the Presidential National Planning Committee, recommending that K-content be designated as a national strategic industry.

The proposal was delivered during an on-site meeting between the Economic Division 1 of the National Planning Committee and CJ ENM, held at the CJ ENM Studio Center in Paju on the same day. This marks the first time that the National Planning Committee, which is responsible for establishing the national vision of the Lee Jaemyung administration, has visited a content company.

The proposal includes recommendations such as designating K-content as a national strategic industry and expanding financial support, providing institutional support to strengthen the competitiveness of domestic online video services (OTT), and establishing policy foundations to foster artificial intelligence (AI) content.

Heo Minhui, CJ's Chief Management Support Officer, emphasized, "Currently, the Korean video content industry is facing a structural crisis that cannot be overcome by corporate efforts alone," and added, "It is urgent to designate the cultural industry as a national strategic industry, on par with the semiconductor industry, to ensure legal and institutional support for the future of the country."

Jung Taeho, Head of Economic Division 1 of the National Planning Committee, responded, "We visited CJ ENM to identify actionable tasks to achieve a 'K-culture market worth 300 trillion won and 50 trillion won in cultural exports,'" and added, "We will review ways to integrate AI with K-content to lead global culture."
