This luncheon was organized to encourage the sanitation workers who have quietly performed their duties despite challenging circumstances, such as record-breaking heat waves, monsoon rains, and flood damage, and to listen to their voices from the field.
The event inviting sanitation workers has continued since 2022, marking its fourth year in 2025, and has been held annually since Mayor Joo Gwangdeok took office.
Mayor Joo Gwangdeok stated, "The reason our city can maintain a clean and tidy environment is thanks to the effort and dedication of each and every sanitation worker," and added, "I deeply empathize with the difficulties sanitation workers face due to extreme weather caused by climate change and challenging working conditions. We will continue to strengthen institutional and administrative support to improve their working environment."
Meanwhile, the city has implemented various policies to improve the working conditions of sanitation workers, including expanding the provision of safety equipment, offering support to cope with heat waves, providing vaccinations, and assisting with leaf collection and disposal.
The city also announced plans to continue pursuing practical improvement measures by reflecting feedback from the field.
