The city has been increasing the utility of Gimpo Pay by reflecting citizens' opinions in effective policies.

The core of this agreement is to introduce a walking service and a micro-donation service using the Gimpo Pay app. By eliminating the platform agency fee for the existing walking program, the city expects to reduce costs and improve citizen engagement. At the same time, by allowing citizens to use their Gimpo Pay balance for donations to help those in need, the city aims to enhance the convenience of giving and promote a culture of welfare.

The signing ceremony, held at Gimpo City Hall on July 30, was attended by the city's Deputy Mayor, Byun Donghun, Vice President of Kona I, Kim Hyojin, Secretary General of the Gyeonggi Social Welfare Community Chest, the CEO of the Gimpo Welfare Foundation, and a total of seven participants.

As a key detail of the agreement, the walking service is part of an ongoing health initiative. By replacing the external platform agency fee with an in-house function within Gimpo Pay, the city expects to save approximately 10.8 million KRW in its budget.

Currently, the service operates on an external platform, but from January 2026, it will be integrated into the Gimpo Pay app for official operation. Afterwards, various events and missions will allow citizens to accumulate mileage through walking, which can be converted into tangible goods or Gimpo Pay, returning benefits to the citizens.

Additionally, the micro-donation service (using Gimpo Pay balance) works by discovering and posting donation stories. Citizens can select a story and donate using their Gimpo Pay balance. The city of Gimpo collects these donations and delivers them to the beneficiaries, while donation receipts are issued through the Gyeonggi Social Welfare Community Chest. The city and the Gimpo Welfare Foundation are responsible for identifying donation recipients and planning the project.

Furthermore, to significantly improve payment convenience and accessibility for citizens, the city introduced Naver Pay and Kakao Pay linked simple payment services to Gimpo Pay on July 24, establishing a citizen-centered smart payment environment.

The usage method is simple. Users register their Gimpo Pay card (physical or mobile) on the Naver Pay or Kakao Pay app. At participating merchants, they scan the QR code within the simple payment app, and Gimpo Pay is automatically used for payment. With the expansion of simple payment services, Gimpo Pay is evolving into a local currency that can be used more easily both online and offline.

A city official stated, "With the number of Gimpo Pay members currently reaching 258,000 and 14,620 affiliated merchants, the city aims to further enhance the utility of Gimpo Pay," adding, "With the introduction of these new services, Gimpo Pay will evolve beyond simple payments to become a citizen welfare platform encompassing health and donations."
