Request for Implementation of Heat Illness Prevention Measures
"We Will Do Our Best to Ensure Worker Safety"
Amid a series of disaster-level heatwaves, Kim Seokjun, Superintendent of the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education, visited the field in person.
On the morning of July 30, Superintendent Kim visited the site of the 'Busan Solbit School Relocation and New Construction' project in Sasang-gu to inspect the implementation of heatwave response measures and worker safety protocols. This emergency inspection was conducted to verify compliance with the recently revised 'Occupational Safety and Health Standards Regulations' and the five basic heatwave safety rules (cool water, shade, rest, cooling gear, and emergency measures).
At the site, the heatwave response system was thoroughly checked, including the installation of rest areas and shade canopies, provision of ice vests, and the guarantee of rest periods for workers. Superintendent Kim stated, "I am grateful to everyone working to create a better educational environment for students despite the intense heat," and emphasized, "Above all, safety is the top priority. We will do our utmost to protect workers not only from the heatwave but also from harmful and hazardous factors at the site."
The Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education plans to further strengthen inspections of heatwave response measures at school construction sites, starting with this inspection. In addition, all schools and institutions will be instructed to implement mandatory heatwave measures, such as providing at least 20 minutes of rest every two hours when the perceived temperature exceeds 33 degrees Celsius, and compliance will be continuously monitored.
Superintendent Kim Seokjun is conducting an urgent inspection of school facility construction sites in preparation for the heatwave.
