First Meeting After Approval of Development Plan Amendment, Strengthening Communication
Meeting with Uichang Extinct Fishermen Cooperative to Be Held in August
The Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority (Commissioner Park Sungho) has initiated dialogue with the 'Extinct Fishermen' to normalize the development of the Ungdong 1 District.
On the 30th, the Authority announced that it held a meeting in the main conference room with the Jinhae Extinct Fishermen Cooperative (President Kim Singwan) to share updates on the "Normalization of the Ungdong 1 District Development Project."
This meeting was organized following the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's approval on July 22 to amend the development plan for Ungdong 1 District, which included an extension of the project period. The Authority explained the progress of the normalization plan announced on March 17 and outlined the future schedule, while also listening to the cooperative's opinions.
The Authority stated that construction of the basic infrastructure is scheduled to begin in January 2026. Ground surveys and detailed design are currently underway, and services to revise the development and implementation plans for the livelihood support land are also being pursued in parallel.
The Authority revealed a plan to partially complete the livelihood support land by April 2026, enabling the extinct fishermen to exercise actual land development rights within the scope of leisure, recreation, and tourism complex purposes. The Authority requested that the cooperative prepare to exercise these rights in line with the completion schedule.
Commissioner Park Sungho stated, "The Authority and the Extinct Fishermen Cooperative are mutually cooperative partners leading the normalization of Ungdong 1 District together," and added, "As I have emphasized in more than ten previous meetings, I will do my utmost to ensure that, by the end of my term in 2027, the extinct fishermen can exercise substantial rights over the livelihood support land."
President Kim Singwan said, "The extinct fishermen have waited far too long to secure their rights," and added, "This time, we hope it will truly help support our livelihoods."
The Authority plans to hold a meeting with the Uichang Extinct Fishermen Cooperative next month and will continue to promote project normalization through ongoing communication with the extinct fishermen.
A meeting is being held between the Busanjin Coast Guard Autonomous Agency and the Woongdong 1 District Extinct Fishery Cooperative.
