Hanam Business High School and Misa Gangbyeon High School Selected for Gyeonggi Education Office Project
Simultaneous Strengthening of Vocational and Science Education
Full-Scale Efforts to Foster Local Talent Begin
Hanam City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Hyunjae) announced on July 30 that Hanam Business High School and Misa Gangbyeon High School have been selected as the final recipients of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education's public project, aimed at strengthening local vocational and science education. Hanam Business High School was chosen as a "Regional Cooperation-Type Specialized High School," while Misa Gangbyeon High School was designated as a "Gyeonggi-Type Science-Focused School."
Hanam Business High School, a vocational high school in Hanam City, will receive an annual education budget of 50 million won for the next three years as a result of its designation as a specialized high school.
Earlier, on July 10, Hanam City signed a three-party business agreement with the Gwangju Hanam Office of Education and Hanam Business High School to operate the "Regional Cooperation-Type Specialized High School," establishing a cooperative system to nurture talent needed by local industries.
Under the agreement, Hanam City is responsible for identifying companies that can be linked to local strategic industries and providing policy support. The Gwangju Hanam Office of Education will offer administrative and financial backing and assign outstanding industry-academia adjunct teachers. Hanam Business High School will strengthen its practice-oriented curriculum and project-based classes to help students demonstrate their abilities immediately upon graduation in the workplace.
In addition, Misa Gangbyeon High School has been designated as the first science-focused school in Hanam City. This initiative is a core policy of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education to foster future talent in science and engineering by strengthening science and mathematics education at general high schools. Misa Gangbyeon High School will begin full-scale operation starting in the 2026 academic year.
For the next five years, an annual budget of approximately 25 million won will be provided. Students will be able to enhance both their scientific thinking and university entrance competitiveness through a variety of programs, including advanced science classes, independent inquiry activities, career exploration in cooperation with universities and research institutions, and integrated creative classes. In particular, the plan includes research collaboration with the Seoul National University Learning Sciences Research Institute and training programs with the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity, which are expected to improve the quality of education by enhancing teacher competency.
Mayor Lee Hyunjae of Hanam City stated, "Both schools will serve as important foundations for regional development and educational innovation," and added, "I hope Hanam Business High School will grow into a hub for nurturing practice-oriented industrial talent, while Misa Gangbyeon High School becomes a center for fostering science and engineering talent in the region."
Mayor Lee Hyunjae also expressed his deep gratitude to the school staff, the school management committee, and officials from the Gwangju Hanam Office of Education for their efforts in securing the designation of Hanam Business High School as a regional cooperation-type specialized high school and Misa Gangbyeon High School as a science-focused high school. He stated, "The selection of these two schools will enhance the competitiveness of Hanam's education and further solidify the foundation for nurturing future talent."
He continued, "We will continue to work closely with schools to nurture talent that will lead local strategic industries and the science and engineering field, and actively support the establishment of a foundation for Hanam City's future growth."
