Since June 2012, Post Office Shopping has operated the "Online Traditional Market Section" to help citizens conveniently purchase products from traditional markets across the country.
At the traditional market section, customers can find more than 7,500 products from 253 traditional markets nationwide. However, until now, payments using the Digital Onnuri Gift Certificate were not possible.
From August 1, payments using the Digital Onnuri Gift Certificate will be available at the traditional market section. The Digital Onnuri Gift Certificate was created to boost sales for traditional market merchants and revitalize local commercial districts, and can be used at traditional markets and shopping streets nationwide. Purchases can be made through the Digital Onnuri Gift Certificate app at a 10% discount off the face value.
Post Office Shopping plans to contribute to price stabilization and expand sales channels for traditional market businesses by introducing and implementing the Digital Onnuri Gift Certificate payment service. The aim is to strengthen the public role of the online shopping mall by supporting the entry of traditional market businesses struggling to expand their sales channels and providing product consulting.
Various promotional events will also be held in line with the launch of the Digital Onnuri Gift Certificate payment service.
From August 4 to 17, the first 300 customers each week will receive a 10% discount coupon (up to 3,000 won) for traditional market products. In addition, customers who purchase products with the Digital Onnuri Gift Certificate at the Post Office Shopping traditional market section will be eligible to receive online gift certificates from Post Office Shopping, with the top spenders selected as winners.
Cho Haegeun, Director General of Korea Post, stated, "The Digital Onnuri Gift Certificate payment service is being introduced and implemented to expand sales channels for traditional market merchants and to help citizens conveniently purchase products." He added, "Korea Post will continue to strive to provide traditional market products at affordable prices through Post Office Shopping, creating opportunities for both traditional market businesses and customers to prosper together."
