Frequent Forgery of Official Documents... Verification Is Essential
"If Cash or Commissions Are Requested, It Is 100% a Scam"
Gwangju City has recently warned the public to be especially cautious as incidents of impersonation scams involving civil servants have been occurring frequently.
These impersonation scams typically involve fraudsters presenting fake business cards, forged civil servant IDs, or falsified official documents to private companies in order to induce the purchase of goods or attempt to secure supply contracts.
The city recently identified eight cases involving forged official seals on fake documents related to goods purchases, three cases involving forged civil servant IDs, and several cases of no-shows. The city has requested police investigations into these incidents.
The city has recommended that if anyone receives official documents or purchase confirmation letters via fax or mobile phone, they should always call the relevant institution directly to verify their authenticity. The city especially emphasized that if a civil servant directly requests cash or a commission, it is 100% a scam. In suspicious situations, people should report or inquire by calling the police (112) or the Gwangju City Civil Service Call Center (062-120).
A city official stated on July 30, "Civil servants never unilaterally contact private companies to sign contracts or request goods," and urged, "If you encounter a suspicious situation, verify it directly with the relevant institution, and if you suffer any damages, report it immediately to the police or other authorities."
