STX Signs Aviation and Battery Partnership with Mobius Korea

Strengthening MRO Business Capabilities

On July 30, STX, a general trading company, announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for strategic cooperation with Mobius Korea, a company specializing in high-output battery systems for aviation mobility, through its subsidiary STX Aeroservice, in order to enter the next-generation aviation and aviation battery sectors.

This agreement includes linking Mobius's technologies related to Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), with STX performing comprehensive MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) services, including battery replacement, maintenance, and transportation.

STX Aeroservice has the capability to provide systematic aviation MRO services based on its many years of accumulated maintenance and operational experience in the aviation field. In particular, since AAM batteries require replacement every three to six months, STX Aeroservice plans to establish logistics and maintenance solutions optimized for this replacement cycle. In addition, STX Aeroservice will become the global export and maintenance partner for Mobius's unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) product line.

Mobius is a company possessing high-output aviation battery technology that meets the standards of NASA and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and this technology has been designated as a new growth engine industry technology by the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Especially, its batteries, based on modular design, are easy to replace and maintain, which is expected to create synergy with STX's MRO business.

Mobius also holds a patent for a thermal runaway prevention battery system, which has been verified through joint development with Tesla. Mobius plans to utilize this technology to recycle batteries initially used in AAM and UAS as mobile energy storage systems (ESS) based on renewable energy, and to apply it to next-generation aviation charging systems as well.

An STX representative stated, "This marks the official entry into the global value chain of next-generation aviation and aviation battery sectors," adding, "We aim to establish ourselves as a key company in the future aviation industry through an integrated MRO system."
