On the Expulsion of 45 Opposition Lawmakers: "Park Chandae Is Struggling in the Election"
Opposed to Martial Law, but Stance Against Impeachment Remains Unchanged
Overturning the Past Is Not True Innovation
Na Kyungwon, a member of the People Power Party, stated that while the emergency martial law declared by former President Yoon Sukyeol was indeed wrong, her stance against impeachment remains unchanged.
On July 29, Na Kyungwon appeared on SBS News' "Kim Taehyun's Political Show" and shared her thoughts on the current direction of innovation within the People Power Party. In particular, regarding the impeachment of former President Yoon Sukyeol, she reiterated her opposition and noted that, judging by the public approval ratings at the time, nearly 50% of the public shared her view.
Na Kyungwon said, "The more we focus on martial law and impeachment, the more our party becomes trapped in an endless quagmire. There was an official party stance against impeachment, and although a few members did support it, what matters most now is that our party moves forward into the future. In a sense, the party should embrace a wide spectrum of views, but within that, we must uphold the essence of conservative values, establish party discipline, and fulfill the roles our party is meant to play."
She continued, "That is why I believe it is problematic to pursue innovation by pointing fingers and telling certain individuals to leave. However, I do believe that where party discipline needs to be established, it must be done. Overturning the past in the name of innovation can never truly be called innovation."
Na Kyungwon also commented on Democratic Party leader candidate Park Chandae's resolution urging the expulsion of the 45 People Power Party lawmakers who went to the Hannam-dong official residence. She said, "Park Chandae's remarks only make me think that he is finding the election very difficult. When elections are tough, people make strong statements. We never blocked the entrance. The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials tried to execute the warrant twice. The first time, they delegated the execution to the National Office of Investigation, but the National Office of Investigation refused, asking why it was delegated to them. The second time, after we protested, when they came to execute the warrant, we opened all the doors."
Regarding the recent attention on Jeon Hangil, a former Korean history lecturer who recently joined the People Power Party, she said, "There has been a lot of noise about his party membership, but I do not think it is right to say some people can join and others cannot. Our party encompasses a wide spectrum."
