Land Ministry Launches 'Victim Support Portal' for Jeju Air Disaster Bereaved Families

Pilot Operation Begins on the 30th for Three Months
Official Launch Scheduled for October After Improvements

The government will begin a three-month pilot operation of the "Victim Support Portal" starting July 30, to make it easier for the bereaved families of the Jeju Air disaster to access information regarding victim support.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on July 29, "After multiple consultations with the bereaved families' association, we have established the Victim Support Portal." The portal provides information on the special legislation that forms the basis for victim support, the Victim Support Group, and the Private Expert Advisory Panel, including their main roles and responsibilities. It also offers an online inquiry service for the advisory panel.

Additionally, the portal offers integrated guidance on key details, application procedures, and required documents for support measures provided by each relevant ministry, such as living support funds (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport), medical and psychological treatment support (Ministry of Health and Welfare), healing leave support (Ministry of Employment and Labor), and legal counseling (Ministry of Justice).

The portal will also provide information on the general meetings of the bereaved families, major events, and government press releases related to victim support. It will include reporting methods and activity guidelines to prevent secondary harm. Furthermore, related materials such as application forms for support, minutes of the Victim Support and Memorial Committee meetings, and contact information for relevant organizations will be made available.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to continuously supplement and improve the functions of the Victim Support Portal by reflecting the actual user experience and suggestions of the bereaved families, with the goal of officially launching the portal in October. The Victim Support Portal will be operated based on an information system established in accordance with Article 27 (Establishment and Operation of Information Systems, etc.) of the "Special Act on Relief and Support for Victims of the 12·29 Passenger Aircraft Disaster," to efficiently carry out support projects for victims and affected areas.

Park Jeongsu, head of the 12·29 Passenger Aircraft Disaster Victim Support Group, stated, "We expect that the Victim Support Portal will improve information accessibility for the bereaved families and facilitate smoother communication between the government and the families." He added, "We will continue to do our utmost to support the daily recovery of the bereaved families based on communication and trust."
