Busan Office of Education to Establish Second Sinjeong High School Campus to Alleviate Overcrowding in Jeonggwan Area

The Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education (Superintendent Kim Seokjun) will establish a second campus for Sinjeong High School to address the issue of overcrowding at general high schools in the Jeonggwan area.

The plan is to assign new students to the campus starting from the 2027 academic year.

Currently, general high schools in the Jeonggwan area are experiencing overcrowding, with more than 30 students per class. Although there is one remaining site designated for a high school in the area, the development of apartment complexes has been virtually completed, and due to the declining school-age population, the number of new students is expected to decrease after 2031. Therefore, it is realistically difficult to establish an additional high school.

The Office of Education is pursuing an increase in the number of classes by expanding Jeonggwan High School and Sinjeong High School. However, the number of incoming students is expected to continue growing until 2030, so the overcrowding is likely to persist for some time. Accordingly, the Office has decided to temporarily operate the second campus of Sinjeong High School on an unused site in Dalsan-ri, Jeonggwan-myeon (the site for Jeonggwan 4th High School).

The second campus will consist of modular classrooms accommodating 15 classes. On the 30th at 5:00 p.m., the Office of Education will hold an information session for parents of middle school students in the Jeonggwan area at the Sinjeong High School auditorium and will begin the administrative procedures. The Office also plans to support improvements to the educational environment at nearby small schools.

Superintendent Kim Seokjun stated, "The second campus of Sinjeong High School is a customized solution to alleviate overcrowding, reflecting local conditions and the needs of educational stakeholders," and added, "We will do our best to improve the learning environment and ensure students' right to choose their schools."
