On July 28, President Lee Jaemyung replaced the head of the special delegation to Vietnam, changing the appointee from former Saenuri Party lawmaker Lee Inki to former Hannara Party lawmaker Park Changdal.
Kang Yujeong, spokesperson for the presidential office, stated, "Due to health reasons, it became difficult for Lee Inki, the head of the Vietnam special delegation, to make the trip," and added, "We have appointed former lawmaker Park Changdal as the new head of the delegation." She further explained, "Park is a senior politician who has served three terms in the National Assembly and is expected to be the right person to announce the return of democratic Korea and to clearly explain the new administration's governing philosophy and foreign policy."
The Vietnam special delegation consists of delegation head Park Changdal, lawmaker Yoon Hoo-deok, and lawmaker Baek Hyeryeon. The delegation is scheduled to depart today and meet with key Vietnamese government officials over the next three days. The special delegation plans to convey the Korean government's commitment to strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries and to discuss ways to expand cooperation in the infrastructure and energy sectors.
