US Secretary of State: Will Help Mediate Ceasefire Talks Between Thailand and Cambodia

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has urged the foreign ministers of Thailand and Cambodia, who have recently been engaged in armed clashes over border issues, to immediately de-escalate tensions and cease hostilities, the State Department announced on the 27th (local time).


On this day, the US State Department released a statement through spokesperson Tammy Bruce, saying that Secretary Rubio had separate phone calls with Marit Saengiyampong, the Foreign Minister of Thailand, and Prak Sokhonn, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Cambodia, and delivered this message.


During the calls, Secretary Rubio stated that the United States is prepared to assist in future negotiations to ensure peace and stability between Thailand and Cambodia. He also emphasized President Donald Trump's commitment to peace and the importance of an immediate ceasefire.

The previous day, President Trump announced via his social media platform, Truth Social, that he had spoken separately with the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia, and that both sides had agreed to hold talks for a ceasefire negotiation. President Trump also stated that if the two countries do not accept his mediation for a ceasefire, he will suspend the ongoing trade negotiations.
