On Sunday, July 27, extreme heat is expected to continue across most regions nationwide, with daytime high temperatures soaring up to 37 degrees Celsius.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the weather will remain mostly clear throughout the country, and the apparent temperature is expected to rise to around 35 degrees Celsius, resulting in persistent heat. As a result, heat wave advisories remain in effect for most areas nationwide, and the risk of heat-related illnesses has increased. According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, heat wave advisories are currently maintained in 180 out of 183 designated advisory zones nationwide, accounting for 98% of the total.


Morning low temperatures are expected to range from 22 to 28 degrees Celsius, while daytime highs are forecast to reach between 32 and 37 degrees Celsius. In major cities, the daytime high is expected to reach 37 degrees Celsius in Seoul, Daejeon, and Jeonju; 36 degrees Celsius in Gwangju; and 35 degrees Celsius in Chuncheon, Gangneung, and Daegu. In Seoul, the morning low will be 28 degrees Celsius, resulting in tropical night conditions.


The Korea Meteorological Administration advised, "Refrain from outdoor activities and outings, and pay special attention to food management to prevent food poisoning."


Damage caused by the ongoing heat wave continues to be reported. Last night, in the Wolmido area of Incheon, a power outage cut electricity to 25 commercial establishments, resulting in inconvenience as air conditioning could not be used for four hours and thirty minutes.


According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the number of heat-related illness cases this year stands at 2,183, which is 1,312 more than last year's 871 cases?nearly three times higher. Of these, 11 people have died.


Livestock damage is also severe. During the same period, a total of 1,011,243 livestock deaths have been reported, more than ten times the number during the same period last year (96,148). This includes 48,890 pigs and 962,353 poultry such as chickens.


On July 25, the government raised the heat wave crisis alert to the "serious" level and activated Level 1 of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters to respond to the heat wave.
