[Weather] Heatwave Continues Through Weekend... Seoul Daytime High Reaches 38 Degrees Yonhap News Agency

The heatwave is expected to continue this weekend. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, on July 26, the morning low will range from 22 to 28 degrees Celsius, and the daytime high will soar to between 32 and 38 degrees Celsius, potentially reaching record-breaking temperatures. The highest July temperature ever recorded in Seoul was 38.4 degrees Celsius on July 24, 1994. In July, there have only been four days in Seoul's recorded history when the daily high exceeded 38 degrees Celsius.

The heatwave will persist not only in Seoul but across the entire country. Incheon is expected to see a daytime high of 34 degrees Celsius, Daejeon 37 degrees, Gwangju 36 degrees, Daegu 35 degrees, and both Busan and Ulsan 32 degrees. On July 27, daytime highs are also forecast to be between 32 and 37 degrees Celsius. Due to high humidity, the perceived temperature in most regions will be around 35 degrees Celsius.

Jeju Island will experience rainfall ranging from 5 to 20 millimeters over the weekend (10 to 50 millimeters in mountainous areas). Jeju will be located on the edge of the North Pacific high-pressure system, and as strong southeasterly winds blow between this high-pressure area and the typhoon active to its south, rain is expected. Jeju will also experience strong winds, with instantaneous wind speeds reaching around 55 kilometers per hour (up to 70 kilometers per hour in mountainous areas) for the time being.

Due to the influence of the typhoon, strong winds of 35 to 60 kilometers per hour and high waves of 2 to 4 meters are expected for the time being in the far southern waters of the Yellow Sea, the outer southern waters, and the seas around Jeju (excluding the northern coastal waters).
