On July 25, the city of Dongducheon in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Park Hyungdeok) announced that it is enhancing the cultural and artistic atmosphere of the Bosandong Foreign Tourist Special Zone through the "Bosandong Foreign Tourist Special Zone Music Street Project." The city is creating an emotionally engaging pedestrian environment where people can walk with music, aiming to encourage tourists to extend their stay.
The main aspects of the project include improving nighttime scenery by renovating flower beds and replacing plants, refurbishing busking stages, and installing gobo lighting.
In particular, flower pots that were previously scattered and detracted from the cityscape will be remodeled. The entire street will be transformed into a fresh and sophisticated space by planting evergreen species such as Euonymus, which can thrive year-round.
Additionally, the city will refurbish the luminaria lighting, a symbol of the tourist special zone, and install gobo lighting along Workshop Street and Club Street, transforming these areas into vibrant and emotionally engaging spaces even at night. The installation of gobo lighting was decided after consultations with the merchants' association to ensure nighttime safety in the Bosandong Tourist Special Zone.
An official from Dongducheon City stated, "Through the Bosandong Foreign Tourist Special Zone Music Street Project, we will ensure that this area is reborn as a space where not only tourists but also all citizens can enjoy walking and staying, and we will proceed without any setbacks."
