Mugunghwa Seedling Giveaway, Water Activities, and Busking
at Jangseong Mugunghwa Park on August 7-8
This festival is a nationwide event planned by the Korea Forest Service to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Liberation and to widely promote the significance and beauty of the national flower, the Mugunghwa (Rose of Sharon). Last year, Jangseong County was selected as one of the host locations, along with Suwon City, Chuncheon City, and Wanju County, after receiving high evaluations in categories such as Mugunghwa infrastructure and the level of interest from local government leaders.
Mugunghwa Park, the festival venue, is a landmark created in 2021 by Jangseong County and Doosan Group. The park spans 9,500 square meters and features over 12,000 Mugunghwa plants of 46 different varieties. Visitors can see nearly every existing Mugunghwa variety. The park received the Grand Prize for National Flower Mugunghwa Landmarks from the Korea Forest Service in 2022 and the Grand Prize for Eco-Friendly Design from South Jeolla Province in 2024.
The festival will open on August 7 with the "South Jeolla Province Mugunghwa Excellent Potted Plant Contest" in the morning. There will also be family-friendly hands-on programs, including Mugunghwa craft making, face painting, water slides, and water gun games. Three hundred Mugunghwa saplings will be distributed for free on a first-come, first-served basis. Food trucks and street performances (busking) will also be available.
The opening ceremony will take place at 6:00 p.m. on August 7. The event will begin with a performance by "Harang," a musical club of local students, followed by performances from singers Hwang Minho, Ji Changmin, and others.
