Gurye County Extends Wildflower Ecological Special Zone Designation for Three Years Until 2027

Adding Urban Garden and Educational Functions
Strengthening Brand Value

Jeollanam-do Gurye County announced on July 25 that the Wildflower Ecological Special Zone will be extended for three years until 2027 following its redesignation.

Since its initial designation in 2010, the Gurye Wildflower Ecological Special Zone has contributed to strengthening the brand value and identity of Gurye by utilizing ecological resources that reflect the region's unique characteristics. These efforts include the creation of the Jirisan Garden, the development of the Wildflower Festival as a tourism resource, the operation of the Wildflower Research Institute, and the revitalization of the pressed flower industry.

This redesignation is intended to promote balanced regional development by supporting region-specific specialized projects through regulatory relaxation, in accordance with the regional specialization development zone system.

The county plans to implement a total of 11 detailed projects by adding two new initiatives?an ecology, healing, and garden urbanization project, and a regional specialized wildflower and forest education development project?to the existing three specialized projects (wildflower ecological tourism, expansion of wildflower production infrastructure and workforce training, and activation of wildflower distribution facility marketing) and nine detailed projects.

County Governor Kim Sunho stated, "We will focus on developing the Wildflower Ecological Special Zone into a nature-friendly resting space and a tourist attraction where visitors can relax and experience various activities." He added, "Through the forest education development project, we will operate forest gardens as spaces for ecological exploration, healing, and learning, making them a driving force for regional growth."
