Mayor Jung Inhwa of Gwangyang Proposes Inclusion of Regional Issues in National Policy Tasks

Visit to the National Policy Planning Committee
Request for Inclusion of 17 Projects Including Secondary Batteries

Gwangyang City in South Jeolla Province announced on the 24th that Mayor Jung Inhwa visited the National Policy Planning Committee on the 23rd and actively proposed that 17 key pending issues, which will drive the city's future development, be included as national policy tasks.


On the previous day, Mayor Jung met in succession with Jin Sungjoon, Vice Chairman of the National Policy Planning Committee, Ando Geol, a member of the Planning Subcommittee, and Wi Seongon, a member of the Economic Subcommittee, to engage in in-depth discussions on the necessity and validity of each project. He also visited the office of local district lawmaker Kwon Hyangyeop to personally deliver materials requesting the inclusion of these issues in national policy tasks and asked for active cooperation.

The total number of key issues proposed by the city is 17. These include the designation of the Gwangyang Bay Area as a specialized complex for the national advanced strategic industry in the field of secondary battery raw materials and materials, the additional designation of a specialized complex for materials, parts, and equipment, the establishment of a Gwangyang Bay tourism cluster, the construction of a scale-up demonstration center for venture companies and a startup park, the establishment of a steel and metal carbon-neutral artificial intelligence transition (AX) support center, the establishment of a national smart port MRO workforce training and education center at Gwangyang Port, and the deepening and dredging of the main approach channels at the product and container piers of Gwangyang Port. These are all core projects aimed at securing future growth engines for Gwangyang City.


In addition, other pending issues included in President Lee Jaemyung's regional pledges?such as the construction of a connecting road between Gwangyang Port and Yulchon Industrial Complex, the stop of the Gyeongjeon Line KTX-Eum at Gwangyang Station, the establishment of the Gwangyang Tax Office, and the establishment of the Gwangyang branch office of the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service?were also included in this proposal for national policy tasks.


Gwangyang City plans to use this visit as an opportunity to further strengthen its connections with the National Assembly and central government agencies, and to continue strategic and sustained efforts to have these issues reflected in national policy tasks.


Mayor Jung stated, "We will further strengthen communication and cooperation with the central government to ensure that the core projects for regional development are effectively included in national policy tasks."
