The children's water park at Samnak Ecological Park in Busan will reopen to the public for the first time in six years.
The Busan Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Heongjoon) announced on July 24 that the Samnak Ecological Park water park will operate for 30 days from July 26 to August 24.
The water park has been established to allow citizens to safely enjoy water activities in the city during the hot summer months. It will open at 12:30 p.m. on July 26. An opening ceremony, attended by Mayor Park Heongjoon, Sasang District Chief Cho Byunggil, and others, is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on the same day.
The newly opened water park features a variety of attractions, including three swimming pools, one lazy river, three air slides, a large tube slide, and four pools exclusively for infants and toddlers. Convenience facilities such as a 40-meter cooling shelter, a large tent, 50 Mongolian tents, restrooms, and showers are also available.
Admission will be managed in three sessions per day, with a maximum of 1,500 people allowed per session. The first session runs from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the second from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., and the third from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The water park will be closed every Monday. The facility is open to children of elementary school age or younger, and all children must be accompanied by a guardian. Admission is free.
Entry will be granted through both advance reservations and on-site first-come, first-served registration. Advance reservations begin at 3:00 p.m. on July 24. For each session, 1,000 spots will be available through online reservations, while 500 will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at the site.
The city explained that, since the closure of the Hwamyeong Ecological Park water park in 2019 and the subsequent suspension of operations at the Samnak water park due to COVID-19, citizens in western Busan have experienced inconvenience due to a lack of summer water recreation spaces. This reopening was made possible by the city securing an emergency supplementary budget of 450 million won, with Sasang District responsible for facility construction and operations.
Mayor Park Heongjoon stated, "I hope that the Samnak Ecological Park water park, reopening after six years, will become a cool retreat and a place for happy memories for citizens." He added, "We will continue to expand childcare-friendly infrastructure to make Busan the city where children are happiest."
