The 'India Special Envoy Group' led by Lee Gaeho, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea representing Damyang, Hampyeong, Yeonggwang, and Jangseong in South Jeolla Province, successfully concluded its visit to India from June 16 to 19, achieving diplomatic results and returning to Korea.

The special envoy group, which consisted of Lee Gaeho, former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum (head of the delegation), and Song Soonho, a Supreme Council member of the Democratic Party, took significant steps toward strengthening Korea-India relations through four days of diplomatic engagements.

During the visit, the delegation paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and delivered a personal letter from President Lee Jaemyung containing a message of strengthened cooperation and friendship between Korea and India. They also held in-depth discussions on the future direction of the Special Strategic Partnership, which marks its 10th anniversary this year. Prime Minister Modi welcomed the delegation and expressed his hope for a visit to India by President Lee Jaemyung.

In a meeting with Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, India's Minister of External Affairs, the group focused on high-level diplomacy, revitalizing defense exchanges, and ways to enhance economic cooperation. In particular, they held detailed discussions on the defense industry and improvements to the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). In addition, the delegation met with Om Birla, Speaker of the House of the People, and broadened the scope of practical cooperation by exchanging a wide range of views in a short period of time.

Lee Gaeho emphasized, "India, now the world's most populous country, is rapidly emerging as a key diplomatic and economic partner for Korea, so strengthening our strategic partnership is a very important task for us. I expect that this special envoy visit will serve as an opportunity for Korea and India to further advance their friendly and cooperative relationship."

Meanwhile, on July 21, Lee Gaeho stated, "Immediately upon returning to Korea, I went straight from the airport to my constituency. I am urgently inspecting the situation in areas that have suffered severe damage from record-breaking heavy rains and am actively working on measures to support residents, including recovery and compensation efforts."
