"Jeonggwan Line Urban Railway Must Pass Now"... Mayor Jongbok Jeong of Gijang County Urges Ministry of Economy and Finance for Preliminary Feasibility Approval

Jongbok Jeong, the mayor of Gijang County in Busan, personally visited the Ministry of Economy and Finance to repeatedly emphasize the urgency and necessity of establishing the Jeonggwan Line urban railway, a long-standing project for Gijang County.

On the 21st, Gijang County stated, "Mayor Jeong, in a recent meeting with officials from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, appealed for the feasibility and pressing need of the Jeonggwan Line urban railway and strongly requested approval in the preliminary feasibility study."

Mayor Jeong particularly stressed, "Since the Busan-Yangsan-Ulsan Metropolitan Railway recently passed its preliminary feasibility study, the Jeonggwan Line, which is connected to this network, must also be included." He added, "The construction of the Jeonggwan Line is essential for realizing transportation welfare in areas underserved by public transit and for the logistics and workforce transportation needs of the Jeonggwan District industrial complex."

On this day, he also held a one-person protest in front of the Sejong Government Complex and the KDI building, holding a placard that read, "Now is the time for the Jeonggwan Line urban railway!" to foster public support.

The Jeonggwan Line is a key project for Gijang County, connecting Jwacheon Station on the Donghae Line to Wolpyeong in Jeonggwan-eup. By linking with the Donghae Line and the Busan-Yangsan-Ulsan Metropolitan Railway as branch lines, it aims to create a more integrated transportation network.

To promote this project, Gijang County launched a "111,111 signatures campaign" in March of this year, and in May, submitted a petition with over 140,000 signatures to the Ministry of Economy and Finance. In addition, a county-wide rally was held, uniting the will of approximately 175,000 residents.

Mayor Jeong emphasized, "The Jeonggwan Line urban railway is not merely a transportation infrastructure, but a lifeline directly connected to the aspirations of Gijang County residents," and added, "It is time for the government to sincerely commit to balanced regional development and the realization of genuine transportation welfare."

Gijang County plans to continue making every effort to build policy cooperation and expand public opinion to ensure the project passes the preliminary feasibility study.
