On July 21, Yongin City announced that it had been selected for the "2025 Service Robot Demonstration Project" organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
The city plans to invest a total of 366 million won, combining 183 million won in national funding secured through the selection, as well as private and municipal funds, to operate five autonomous robots at Yongin Rural Theme Park in Wonsam-myeon, Cheoin-gu, from this year until 2028.
For this project, the city formed a consortium with three robotics companies: Robotis, Readn, and AR247 Co., Ltd.
The demonstration site, Yongin Rural Theme Park, is an agricultural experience-based tourist destination. Through this project, the city aims to discover new services for rural tourist sites, increase the potential for robot utilization, and apply various technologies to enhance visitor convenience and facility management efficiency.
Robotis, which is participating in the demonstration project, is active in the development of autonomous driving platforms and intelligent service robots. Readn develops LiDAR-based indoor and outdoor autonomous driving solutions, providing integrated services such as route recognition, obstacle avoidance, and autonomous driving software. AR247 is a member of the "Yongin Special City Mobility Consortium," established in September 2023, and last year conducted the "Regulatory Innovation Robot Demonstration Project" in cooperation with Yongin City, patrolling the Suji-gu area.
The five robots to be deployed at Yongin Rural Theme Park will provide services such as information delivery, mobility assistance, and nighttime patrols. Based on this project, the city plans to build advanced mobility services utilizing robots and explore ways to expand their use.
Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin City, said, "Through this demonstration project, we will enhance the brand value of Yongin Rural Theme Park."
