The Fastest Sales Record in "Taste of Korea" Menu History
McDonald's announced on July 21 that its new "Iksan Sweet Potato Mozzarella Burger & Muffin," part of the "Taste of Korea" project, surpassed a cumulative sales total of 1 million units just nine days after launch. This achievement marks the fastest sales milestone ever reached for any menu item in the history of the "Taste of Korea" project.
The Iksan Sweet Potato Mozzarella Burger, released on July 10, features a croquette made with mashed sweet potatoes from Iksan, combined with rich mozzarella cheese for a "sweet and savory" flavor profile. The addition of a spicy and umami-packed jalapeno mayo sauce completes the burger's distinctive taste.
The diverse textures and flavors derived from each ingredient have led to positive customer feedback, further boosting strong sales. Since its release, social networking services (SNS) have been filled with enthusiastic reviews such as "The combination of sweet potato and cheese speaks for itself," and "It's so delicious that it's a shame it's only available for a limited time."
Now in its fifth year, the "Taste of Korea" project is McDonald's flagship local sourcing initiative, launched in 2021. The project aims to offer customers fresh and delicious menu items made with high-quality domestic ingredients, while invigorating local farms. Through the project, McDonald's has promoted the excellence of Korean ingredients and contributed to regional economic revitalization by purchasing large quantities of local produce. For the Iksan Sweet Potato Mozzarella Burger & Muffin, McDonald's purchased approximately 200 tons of sweet potatoes from Iksan, Jeonbuk?setting a new record for the largest single purchase in the history of the Taste of Korea project.
A McDonald's representative stated, "This achievement is thanks to the customers who have supported the 'Taste of Korea' project over the past five years," adding, "We will continue to discover high-quality ingredients from all over the country, providing new experiences for our customers and meaningful support for local farms through ongoing win-win partnerships."
