Woo Sangho Holds Briefing on Cabinet Appointments on July 20
President Lee Jaemyung withdrew the nomination of Education Minister nominee Lee Jinsook on July 20.
Woo Sangho, Senior Presidential Secretary for Political Affairs, announced this decision during a briefing at the presidential office in Yongsan on the same day.
Lee Jinsook had faced allegations of plagiarism in her academic papers and controversy over her child's early illegal overseas education after being nominated as Education Minister.
However, President Lee did not withdraw the nomination of Kang Sunwoo as Minister of Gender Equality and Family. Kang Sunwoo has faced allegations of power abuse, including instructing aides to perform household chores.
When asked whether Kang Sunwoo would definitely be appointed, Woo Sangho replied, "Yes," and explained, "Among the 11 nominees who have not yet been appointed, only the nomination of Lee Jinsook has been withdrawn."
Meanwhile, President Lee met with Kim Byungki, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, and Song Eonseok, floor leader of the People Power Party, the previous day to gather opinions from the National Assembly.
