The legal team representing former President Yoon Sukyeol, who has been indicted by the Special Investigation Team for Insurrection (led by Special Prosecutor Cho Eunsuk), stated, "This is merely the outcome of an investigation that was conducted with a predetermined conclusion from the very beginning," and added, "We will prove the truth in court."
On the 20th, Yoon's legal representatives said in a statement, "The current special prosecutor repeatedly engages in political acts under the guise of an investigation, wielding unlimited power without any checks or balances," expressing their position in this way.
The legal team criticized the special investigation team, saying, "Despite the obligation of objectivity that prosecutors must uphold during investigative procedures, and the duty to serve as representatives of the public interest in pursuit of substantive truth, the team has focused solely on summoning the former president and securing his custody."
They further condemned the special prosecutor's approach, stating, "Although we made several proposals in advance, including written questioning, interviews at a third-party location, and negotiating the investigation schedule, the only response from the special prosecutor was a high-handed demand that the former president appear at the time and place unilaterally set by the special prosecutor for questioning."
The legal team added, "They are disregarding the agony and weight of responsibility involved in the president's exercise of emergency powers, and are even treating political decisions as grounds for criminal punishment. The operation of the national governance system, established over a long constitutional tradition, is being ignored, and the exercise of authority by political appointees is being unjustly framed as insurrection."
They concluded, "Now, the responsibility has shifted to the criminal court," and stated, "We will thoroughly reveal the truth behind the flawed investigation and the unlawful and unjust indictment, and clearly demonstrate what justice before the law truly means."
