Magnitude 7.4 Earthquake Strikes Off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula in the 'Ring of Fire'

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 struck off the eastern coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) announced that at 3:49 p.m. KST on July 20, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake occurred 144 kilometers east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky on the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia.

The epicenter was located at latitude 52.90 degrees north and longitude 160.76 degrees east, with a depth of 20 kilometers.

Earlier, at 3:28 p.m., a magnitude 6.7 earthquake was also recorded 130 kilometers east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in the same area. The depth of this earthquake was 15 kilometers.

A tsunami warning has been issued for the region.
