Yeongnam Region Joint Speech by Democratic Party Leadership Candidates on the 20th
Starts with a Deep Bow... "A Refreshing Party Leader"
Jeong Cheongrae, a lawmaker running for leader of the Democratic Party, raised his voice in criticism targeting the People Power Party, saying, "A party that has committed insurrection must be dissolved," and asked, "How can we cooperate with forces that actually tried to kill President Lee Jaemyung, Park Chandae, Jeong Cheongrae, and Kim Minseok?"
At the joint speech event for the election of party leader and Supreme Council members for the Yeongnam region, held at the Democratic Party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 20th, Jeong said, "I have proposed an amendment to the Constitutional Court Act to allow the dissolution of unconstitutional parties to be requested through a National Assembly resolution and deliberation by the Cabinet." He began his speech with a deep bow.
Jeong stated, "Three years ago, during the presidential election, then-candidate Yoon Sukyeol was told that if he was convicted of a crime involving false information or violating election law and received a fine of 1 million won or more, he would have to return about 40 billion won in election subsidies," and added, "When it comes to insurrection, what must come first is a sincere apology, reflection, and self-examination before the people, and eradicating insurrection must take precedence over cooperation."
He continued, "Just as I did as chair of the National Assembly Legislation and Judiciary Committee, I will lead the party with a sense of exhilaration, effectiveness, and decisiveness," and added, "As a forward attacker, I will score goals for reform."
He also said, "I will push for prosecutorial reform, media reform, and judicial reform like a storm, and accomplish them with lightning speed," adding, "On the way home for Chuseok, I hope to bring you the joyful news on your car radio that the Prosecutors' Office has been abolished and has disappeared into history."
He also promised cooperation with the Lee Jaemyung administration. Jeong said, "The party will do its utmost to ensure that all of the Lee Jaemyung administration's ABCDE policies can proceed," and added, "I also hope that with the rapid restoration of trust between North and South Korea, Mount Geumgang will be reopened."
Jeong also promised changes within the party. He said, "We will usher in an era of party member sovereignty and one-person-one-vote, and will ask party members about important policies," adding, "We will establish regional development special committees, including for discovering talented individuals from Yeongnam, institutionalize the policy aide system for each metropolitan councilor, hold party member concerts, and host awards ceremonies for outstanding party members."
He further stated, "To win the local elections, we will conduct fair primaries and eliminate unfair cutoffs," and added, "Just as I have always been at the forefront when the party was in difficulty, if I become party leader, I will continue to put the party before myself."
In conclusion, he emphasized, "President Lee Jaemyung is number 1, Jeong Cheongrae is also number 1, and I, Jeong Cheongrae, am the number 1 who brings victory," adding, "Only the party members, only the party's will. I ask for your support."
