Vice Minister-Level Appointments Announced by Presidential Office on July 20
Choi Dongseok Appointed as Head of Ministry of Personnel Management
Kim Euigyeom Named as New Head of Saemangeum Development Authority
President Lee Jaemyung has appointed Kwon Daeyoung, the current Secretary General of the Financial Services Commission, as the new Vice Chairman of the Financial Services Commission. Yoo Hongjun, currently a distinguished professor in the Department of Art History at Myongji University, has been appointed as the Director of the National Museum of Korea.
On July 20, Kang Yujeong, spokesperson for the presidential office, announced these appointments in a written briefing.
The new Vice Chairman of the Financial Services Commission is Kwon Daeyoung, who is currently serving as Secretary General of the commission. During the COVID-19 crisis, Vice Chairman Kwon designed and implemented programs such as the New Start Fund and Safe Conversion Loans. Spokesperson Kang stated, "He has extensive experience in policy formulation, including fintech innovation measures such as the financial regulatory sandbox and normalization plans for real estate project financing, making him well-suited to balance innovation and stability in the financial sector."
The new Director of the National Museum of Korea is Yoo Hongjun, currently a distinguished professor in the Department of Art History at Myongji University. Director Yoo is a scholar who raised public interest in cultural heritage through his book 'My Exploration of Cultural Heritage.' Spokesperson Kang introduced him as "the right person to further elevate Korea's global standing by enhancing public sensitivity and participation in cultural heritage and by reinterpreting traditional heritage, as he has both academic depth and administrative capabilities, having previously served as Director of the Yeungnam University Museum and Administrator of the Cultural Heritage Administration."
Choi Dongseok, currently the head of the Choi Dongseok Institute for Human Resources and Organization, has been nominated as the new head of the Ministry of Personnel Management. Choi has previously served as Head of the Human Resources and Organizational Reform Team at the Bank of Korea and as Executive Vice President in charge of human resources and organization at Kyobo Life Insurance. Spokesperson Kang assessed that Choi will contribute to building a competent and loyal public service that works for the people by leveraging his experience in personnel and organizational management accumulated in both the public and private sectors.
Kim Euigyeom, former lawmaker of the Democratic Party of Korea, has been appointed as the new head of the Saemangeum Development Authority. Spokesperson Kang mentioned that Kim's strengths include his broad experience not only in the media, having started as a journalist and served as an editorial writer, but also in national administration and legislation, having served as spokesperson for the Blue House and as a member of the National Assembly.
