Operation of an Integrated Inspection System
Centered on Dedicated Departments for Dating Violence,
Domestic Violence, and Child Abuse

As public concern grows over relational crimes such as stalking, dating violence, domestic violence, and child and elder abuse, the Daegu Police Agency has become the first in the nation to hold a 'Full Joint Investigation Demonstration Event' and is working to advance its response system.

According to the Daegu Police Agency on July 20, more than 80 police officers from the National Police Agency headquarters, Daegu Police Agency, and North Gyeongsang Police Agency’s Women and Juvenile Divisions attended the demonstration event. They shared the current status of their responses to relational crimes and focused on exploring effective measures to prevent recurrence.

Experts note that because relational crimes involve a certain relationship between victim and perpetrator, these incidents are unlikely to end as isolated cases and are highly likely to occur continuously and repeatedly. Therefore, meticulous follow-up measures and systematic preemptive checks by the police are essential.

To address this, the police have introduced and are operating a 'Full Joint Investigation' system in which a dedicated department reviews each case of relational crime daily from occurrence to closure, identifies risk factors in advance, and supplements victim protection measures.

At the demonstration event, the Daegu Nambu Police Station and the Pohang Bukbu Police Station in North Gyeongsang Province reenacted the process and response methods for actual cases of dating violence, elder abuse, and child abuse they had handled. The police showcased highly effective response strategies, including early detection of warning signs, information sharing among relevant departments, and reinforcement of protective measures.

In particular, Daegu Nambu Police Station demonstrated the entire process and collaborative structure of the full joint investigation for ongoing dating violence and elder abuse cases, while Pohang Bukbu Police Station focused on repeated child abuse cases. The realistic demonstrations drew significant attention from attendees.

The head of the Domestic Violence Policy Division at the National Police Agency stated, "Relational crimes are not a single crime type but a complex form that overlaps with others, making preemptive checks and proactive responses more important than ever." He emphasized, "It is necessary to establish a sophisticated integrated response system to prevent recurrence."

The Daegu Police Agency plans to disseminate the best practices and operational models identified at the demonstration event to all police stations in the Daegu and North Gyeongsang regions, and to further develop them into a nationwide response manual in the future.

Lee Seunghyeop, Commissioner of the Daegu Police Agency, said, "This demonstration event served as a reminder of why meticulous and sophisticated police responses to relational crimes are necessary," adding, "We will continue to prioritize public safety and do our utmost to provide trusted policing services."
