Paranormal Researcher Dies Immediately After 'Annabelle' Possessed Doll Tour

Authorities: "No Evidence of Foul Play at This Time"
Inspired the "Conjuring" Film Series

Dan Rivera (54), the chief researcher at NESPR (The New England Society for Psychic Research), a leading American paranormal investigation organization, was found dead in his hotel room shortly after the 'Annabelle' doll tour.

According to CNN, Fox News, and other U.S. media outlets on the 16th (local time), Rivera was found unconscious in his hotel room after completing the final event of the paranormal tour "Devils on the Run" held in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, on the 13th. Emergency responders who arrived at the scene after receiving a report attempted CPR, but Rivera ultimately passed away.

Local police stated, "At this time, there is no evidence of foul play." The exact cause of death will be determined through an autopsy, which is expected to take 8 to 10 weeks for results. Megan Frazer, public information officer for the Pennsylvania State Police, released a report on the incident on the 16th, explaining, "Nothing unusual or suspicious was observed at the scene." In addition, Francis Dutrow, the Adams County Coroner in Pennsylvania, told CNN, "There was no doll in the hotel room where Rivera died."

Rivera had served as the chief researcher at NESPR, an organization dedicated to the scientific documentation and preservation of paranormal phenomena and psychic cases. The main exhibit of this tour was the so-called 'Annabelle' doll, which is currently in NESPR's possession. Originally known as 'Raggedy Ann,' this cloth doll is believed to be a 'doll possessed by an evil spirit.'

In 1970, a nurse claimed, "This doll moved on its own, left ominous notes, and attacked my friend." In response, NESPR founders Ed and Lorraine Warren stated, "The evil spirit is pretending to be a child with the intent to harm people," and placed the doll in a glass case at their occult museum. Later, this doll became the inspiration for the "Conjuring" film series, which was released in 2013.

Rivera often participated in events with the occult museum. The museum stated on social media that he "played a crucial role in the operation of the museum and was often responsible for transporting and safeguarding Annabelle during both public and private events."
