Restoration Sites at Gwangamgyo Bridge in Sojeong-myeon, Naechangcheon and Maenggokcheon in Jochiwon-eup
"Over the past two days, Sejong City and the entire Chungcheong region have suffered significant damage due to heavy rainfall. When I visited the recovery sites in person, I saw members of the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps silently working hard on restoration efforts. I also postponed my schedule to visit the sites and join in the recovery. I sincerely thank the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps and all those on the ground who are working tirelessly. I hope there will be no further damage, and Sejong City will stand together until the very end, as citizens unite their efforts at the recovery sites."
This was the first statement made by Sejong City Mayor Choi Minho as he inspected public facilities and residential areas recently damaged by heavy rainfall.
In response to the recent heavy rains, Mayor Choi conducted an emergency on-site inspection on the 18th to ensure citizen safety, including facility inspections. On the 17th, after more than 300mm of torrential rain fell, Mayor Choi visited Gwangamgyo Bridge in Sojeong-ri, Sojeong-myeon, which had collapsed, to assess the damage. At the site of the collapse, he instructed that measures be taken to ensure the bridge is restored as quickly as possible to minimize inconvenience for residents.
Mayor Choi also visited Naechangcheon in Jochiwon-eup to observe maintenance work being carried out by the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps at a nearby drainage channel and to encourage their efforts. He then visited the flood site at Maenggokcheon in Daegok-ri and the construction site for the access road to the Sejong Venture Valley Industrial Complex, where he inspected drainage facilities such as rainwater inlets and drainage channels around the rivers, as well as safety management and emergency response systems at the construction sites.
In particular, for areas at high risk of flooding, he closely reviewed preventive measures and resident evacuation plans, and at the industrial complex access road construction site, he emphasized the need to prevent any safety accidents caused by heavy rain.
