Sold for Three Days at McDonald's Malaysia
"We Wanted to Share a Special Experience with Customers"
The Malaysian branch of McDonald's has drawn attention by introducing 'XXL' size French fries.
According to reports from overseas media outlets such as 'Dexerto' on July 17 (local time), McDonald's Malaysia launched the 'Fan Fries Meal' from July 11 to July 13 to celebrate 'World French Fries Day'.
The Fan Fries Meal is a set menu that includes French fries, a beverage, and a side menu, and is priced at $2.34 (approximately 3,200 KRW). Its most notable feature is the 'XXL' size of the French fries. This portion is significantly larger than the super size, and when stacked, the fries resemble a small mountain. For customers who want even more fries, there is also a 'double fries' option available.
The XXL fries garnered high interest locally even before their release, and a giant French fries billboard was displayed in the bustling downtown area of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. Additionally, McDonald's employees held an event where they handed out XXL fries in front of a train station.
Chien Mei Lee, the marketing manager of McDonald's Malaysia, explained the purpose of the event by saying, "Malaysians truly love McDonald's French fries and want more of them. That is why we planned the Fan Fries Meal." She added, "We wanted to share a special experience with our customers through irresistible fries, and hope people see it as a small token of appreciation from McDonald's to celebrate joyful moments with friends and family."
The XXL fries were available for only three days, so customers living outside Malaysia did not have the opportunity to purchase them. Now that the event has ended, there has been a flood of requests on local online communities, such as "Please sell them again," "Release them in other countries," and "Offer the XXL size."
Meanwhile, McDonald's has previously organized promotions featuring extra-large fries. Earlier this year, McDonald's Japan introduced the 'Grand Size' fries, which are even larger than the regular large size.
