The live performance of the musical "Ojige Jaemitneun Gasinadeul" will be screened at 13 CGV theaters nationwide from July 23 to August 5, 2025.
The screening was made possible as the musical was selected for "ARKO LIVE," a performing arts video project by the Arts Council Korea and CGV, which films outstanding stage productions and screens them in theaters.
"Ojige Jaemitneun Gasinadeul" is a stage adaptation of the documentary film "Chilgok Gasinadeul" and the essay "Ojige Jaemitge Naideum." The musical tells the story of grandmothers who are learning to read and write Korean for the first time, expressing themselves through poetry and rewriting their own lives. Around 20 poems written by grandmother students at a literacy school have been transformed into musical numbers, delivering both humor and heartfelt emotion. "Ojige Jaemitneun Gasinadeul" is also scheduled to be showcased at the "K-Musical Roadshow in Tokyo," hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Arts Management Service, in November 2025.
"Ojige Jaemitneun Gasinadeul" premiered at the Haneul Theater of the National Theater of Korea in February 2025, gaining attention as a "warm family musical enjoyed by grandmothers, mothers, and daughters together." The film captures the actors’ subtle facial expressions and movements on stage with a total of 14 cameras, and includes unique shots reflecting the perspective of the documentary director "Seokgu," offering a new visual experience that cannot be found in the stage performance.
The 13 CGV theaters screening "Ojige Jaemitneun Gasinadeul" are Gangbyeon, Guro, Daehangno, Yongsan I'Park Mall (all in Seoul), Incheon (Incheon), Dong Suwon, Goyang Baekseok (all in Gyeonggi), Daejeon, Cheonan Terminal (both in Chungcheong), Seomyeon (Busan), Daegu Stadium (Daegu), Sangmu (Gwangju), and Pyeonghwa Square (Mokpo).
To celebrate the film’s release, a variety of special events will be held for audiences. On the opening day, July 23, at 6:00 p.m., a press and influencer screening for media, influencers, and industry professionals will take place at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall. Following the screening, from 8:30 p.m., there will be a guest visit (GV) with composer and music director Kim Hyesung, actors Kim Ahyoung, Heo Soonmi, and Ha Eunju. All ticket holders for this event will receive a sticker featuring artwork drawn by the grandmothers who appeared in the original documentary "Chilgok Gasinadeul," and additional prizes such as official Arts Council Korea goods and autographed posters from the cast will be given away through a raffle.
On July 27 at 2:00 p.m., before the film screening at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall, there will be a stage greeting with actors Park Chaewon, Lee Yeji, and Kim Jicheol. On this day as well, official goods and autographed posters will be given away through a raffle, and all ticket holders will receive a postcard and a film bookmark set made from movie stills.
In addition, there will be "Goods Giveaway Days," during which all ticket holders for specific screenings will receive special merchandise.
