Jongno-gu in Seoul (headed by District Mayor Chung Moonheon) is rapidly advancing the construction of public parking lots and community convenience facilities with the goal of alleviating severe downtown parking shortages and improving residents' quality of life.
Starting with the opening of the Samcheongje 1 Public Parking Lot in May, the district will complete a public parking lot and sports facility in Ogin-dong in September, and the Changsin Sodam Public Parking Lot and a complex cultural facility in October. By the first half of next year, the Shinyeong-dong Public Parking Lot and community convenience facilities will also be completed.
Over the roughly one-year period since May, a total of 458 parking spaces will be added. The Samcheongje 1 Public Parking Lot, built on the site of the Armed Forces Seoul District Hospital in Samcheong-dong, features two underground floors, a total floor area of 5,706 square meters, and 178 parking spaces. It also includes a dedicated fire truck access road to enhance safety.
The public parking lot and multi-purpose sports facility being constructed in Ogin-dong will have four underground floors and two above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 4,732 square meters. It will provide 90 parking spaces and a variety of sports facilities, including a screen park golf course, a multipurpose room, and a rooftop mini sports field, making it a community-oriented space closely integrated into daily life.
In Changsin-dong, the Changsin Sodam Public Parking Lot and complex cultural facility will be constructed, featuring five underground floors and three above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 7,921.4 square meters. This facility will offer 176 parking spaces, a public library, and a youth cultural center, supporting creative activities for young people. The Shinyeong-dong Public Parking Lot and community convenience facility will be built with one underground and two above-ground floors, providing 14 parking spaces and a community space to help resolve chronic alley parking problems and daily inconveniences.
District Mayor Chung Moonheon stated, "We will not stop at simply increasing the number of parking spaces, but will complete community-oriented complex spaces that enhance quality of life, thereby addressing parking shortages in Jongno while comprehensively supporting residents' health, safety, and cultural life."
