World Accreditation Day is a global commemorative day jointly established in 2008 by the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) and the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) to promote the international mutual recognition system for testing, evaluation, and certification results.
In Korea, the Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (KOLAS), centered on the National Institute of Technology and Standards, has been accrediting internationally recognized testing and certification bodies since 1993. To raise awareness of the importance of the accreditation system, an annual awards ceremony is held to honor organizations and individuals who have contributed to the advancement of the testing and certification industry.
Since being accredited as an official testing laboratory by KOLAS in 2011, the Dangjin Testing Laboratory at Hyundai Steel's Dangjin Steelworks has contributed to obtaining 330 domestic and international product certifications and 1,265 classification certifications, based on its accumulated testing and evaluation capabilities.
The test reports and data issued by the laboratory play a vital role in securing customer trust and enhancing competitiveness, as they are essential for procedures such as project bidding, material approval, and submission of quality assurance documents by client companies.
At this ceremony, Hyundai Steel was highly recognized for its contributions to the development of the national accreditation system and received the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award in the group category. In the individual category, Youngjun Cho, Head of Hyundai Steel's Testing and Inspection Team, received the President of the National Institute of Technology and Standards Award for his role in establishing quality management systems in the ore, steel, and metal sectors and advancing testing and evaluation operations.
A Hyundai Steel representative stated, "We will continue to advance our operations by expanding the scope of KOLAS accreditation and strengthening our steel material verification capabilities, in order to proactively respond to increasingly stringent international accreditation standards and various regulations."
