A 21-story mixed-use office facility will be supplied in Susong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. Seoul City announced that it plans to provide citizens with a relaxation space through a design that incorporates open green areas, while also supporting cultural activities by establishing a dedicated classical music performance hall.
On July 18, the city stated that it had convened the 6th Integrated Review Committee for Redevelopment Projects and approved the integrated review proposal covering architecture, landscape, transportation, environment, and park sectors for the "Susong District 1-7 Urban Redevelopment Project" in the area of 80 Susong-dong, Jongno-gu.
The project site is located between the Seoul Regional Tax Office and Jogyesa Temple, where the headquarters of Korean Reinsurance Company currently stands. Since the building was completed in 1985 and has now been outdated for over 38 years, the city completed changes to the redevelopment plan in December last year and is now pushing forward with the redevelopment to improve the aging office environment.
According to the current plan, the city will develop an integrated complex consisting of an office facility with eight basement levels and 21 above-ground floors, neighborhood living facilities, and cultural and assembly spaces, thereby strengthening the business and cultural functions of the Susong-dong urban area.
On the eastern side of the site, a design has been applied that integrates Susong Neighborhood Park with open green spaces. A large-scale green relaxation area of approximately 6,200 square meters will be created, providing a vibrant leisure space with nature in the heart of the city. In particular, the city plans to improve the pedestrian environment by establishing public walkways and shaded trees on the northern side of the project site.
Additionally, an underground pedestrian passage connecting Gwanghwamun Station on Subway Line 5 to Jongno-gu Office will be linked to the project site. This will allow people to access the subway station without having to cross pedestrian crossings or roads.
Furthermore, on the first basement level, which connects to Gwanghwamun Station via an underground road, a dedicated classical music performance hall (Korea Chamber Hall) with approximately 500 seats will be established, enabling citizens to enjoy experiences connected to nearby cultural spaces.
A Seoul City official stated, "With the integrated review approved, we can now proceed with the project implementation plan approval in the second half of this year and begin demolition of the existing building in the first half of next year," adding, "Along with expanding office space in the city center, we will provide citizens with a large-scale garden and a cultural space where they can enjoy a variety of experiences."
