Nowon-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Oh Seungrok), announced on July 18 that it has been operating the educational program "A Day Like a Jewel," which is planned and participated in directly by parents, for ten consecutive years.
"A Day Like a Jewel" is a project that began in 2016, where parents design and run creative programs linked to the school curriculum, providing children with special memories of a unique day. This year, a total of 15 schools were selected through an open call, including nine elementary schools, five middle schools, and one special school. The program will be operated with a variety of themes tailored to each school's characteristics from this month through November.
The main programs include the "Traditional Culture Olympics" traditional culture experience at Hwarang Elementary School, "Create Your Own Bracelet" at Sinsang Middle School, the "Making a Candy House" fairy tale-themed activity at Gyesang Elementary School, and the "24 Solar Terms Nature Experience" at Taerang Elementary School. Schools that are new to the program or have participated two times or fewer are given priority, providing more schools with the opportunity to join.
This program has received high satisfaction from both students and parents. Under the vision of "a happy educational community where children and youth become self-reliant through experience and growth," Nowon-gu is also promoting various policies to expand educational participation, such as supporting parent clubs and offering a parent academy.
Oh Seungrok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, stated, "'A Day Like a Jewel' is a precious time created together, with parents taking the lead and connecting with their children," adding, "We will continue to strengthen parental capabilities and foster community cooperation to ensure every day shines brightly for our children."
