On July 17, the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education signed a 'Green Smart School BTL (Build-Transfer-Lease) Implementation Agreement' to rebuild Inchang Elementary School and Inchang Kindergarten in Guri.
The Green Smart School project is a school space restructuring initiative that rebuilds or remodels schools that are over 40 years old, transforming them into future-oriented schools.
The provincial office selected Gyeonggi Future Education Infrastructure Co., Ltd. as the preferred negotiation partner and, after working-level consultations, signed the BTL implementation agreement on this day.
BTL is a method in which a private business entity completes the facility, transfers ownership to the government or local government, and retains the right to operate the facility for 20 years.
Inchang Elementary School, which is the subject of this project, was established in 1921. Inchang Kindergarten, although an independent facility, uses part of the first floor of the Inchang Elementary School building, which has led to operational and management difficulties, as well as repeated requests for improvement due to the lack of play space.
An official from the provincial office stated, "This project will be carried out with a total budget of 29,188 million won and will cover an area of 12,602 square meters. After obtaining approval for the implementation plan by the end of this year, construction will begin in phases, with the goal of completion in October 2027," adding, "We will create a student-centered future education learning environment by incorporating creative private-sector design proposals and on-site feedback from educational stakeholders."
