Yeongam County in South Jeolla Province has been recognized for having the highest level of regional economic competitiveness in the nation.
On the 17th, the county announced that it had been selected as the number one county-level institution in the field of regional economic competitiveness at the "30 Years of Elected Local Autonomy: Regional Competitiveness Top Institution Certification Ceremony," hosted by the Korea Public Autonomy Research Institute and held at the Air Force Hotel in Seoul on the 16th.
Since 1996, the Korea Public Autonomy Research Institute has annually evaluated all cities, counties, and districts across the country in five categories?population, finance, regional economy, health and culture, and environmental safety?using the Korea Local Competitiveness Index (KLCI), and has selected outstanding local governments based on these results.
The county received high marks for its consistent efforts to revitalize the economy, such as attracting businesses, holding job fairs, and providing subsidies to investment companies, all based on a solid industrial infrastructure including the Daebul National Industrial Complex. These efforts led to Yeongam County being named the top institution in regional economic competitiveness.
County Governor Woo Seunghee stated, "This is a meaningful achievement that demonstrates Yeongam County's regional economic competitiveness has been recognized nationwide." He emphasized, "Building on this certification, we will successfully implement the 'Renewable Energy Local Production and Consumption RE100 Complex City Project' and make Yeongam County the center of Korea's new energy cities."
