S-OIL Delivers Rest Facilities and Smart Airbags to Partner Companies

Effective Win-Win Safety Support for Heatwave Response and Fall Accident Prevention

On the 17th, S-OIL held the '2025 Partner Company Rest Facility and Smart Airbag Delivery Ceremony' at its Ulsan plant.

S-OIL continued its win-win cooperation support projects to promote sustainable mutual growth with partner companies and to spread a field-oriented safety culture.

The event was attended by over 100 key figures, including Kim Beomseok, head of the Ulsan branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor; Jeong Jongdeuk, head of the Busan Regional Headquarters of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency; Hong Seungpyo, S-OIL CSO; and Kim Bochan, S-OIL Ulsan Complex Head. S-OIL delivered seven air-conditioned mobile container rest facilities, 20 sets of smart airbags for preventing falls among high-altitude workers, and 1,000 water-cool towels for heatwave response to its partner companies.

According to statistics on fatal accidents subject to disaster investigation in 2024 announced by the Ministry of Employment and Labor, 'falls' accounted for the highest proportion of all fatal accidents, with such incidents occurring most frequently at worksites where high-altitude tasks such as construction and maintenance are common.

In response, S-OIL introduced industrial smart airbags and delivered them to partner companies to protect the lives of high-risk workers and to proactively prevent fall accidents.

The industrial smart airbags provided by S-OIL to its partner companies use an electric triggering mechanism. When a worker falls, the airbag deploys within 0.2 seconds to protect key areas such as the neck, back, spine, chest, ribs, and lumbar region.

These airbags are designed to respond to falls from heights of less than 5 meters and weigh 1.8 kg, ensuring they do not hinder the worker's movements. In addition, they are reusable, offering both practicality and economic efficiency.

The mobile rest facilities are constructed with special exterior heat-blocking paint and enhanced cooling and ventilation systems, allowing workers to rest safely during heatwaves. S-OIL first introduced six units in 2024 and added seven more this year, now operating a total of 13 facilities.

At the event, Hong Seungpyo, S-OIL CSO, stated, "This delivery ceremony is not just about providing equipment; it is a practical act of mutual growth aimed at realizing a people-centered safety culture together with our partner companies. We will continue to pursue mutual growth with our partners through various means, including education, policy support, and facility investment."

Kim Bochan, Ulsan Complex Head (UCH), also said, "Safety is the top priority at all sites, including the Shaheen Project. We will thoroughly prepare for the regular maintenance in the second half of the year and work together with our partner companies to ensure a zero-accident outcome."
