Osan City to Hold "Apartment Food Waste Reduction Contest" for Apartment Complexes

This contest targets apartment complexes with 100 or more households that use RFID-based individual weighing devices. The competition is divided into three categories based on the number of households: ▲800 or more households, ▲400 to 800 households, and ▲100 to 400 households.

The evaluation period will last for five months, from June to October. The evaluation criteria are as follows: ▲the overall reduction rate of food waste in the apartment complex compared to the previous year (50 points), ▲the average monthly amount of food waste generated per household (40 points), and ▲resident participation activities such as campaign events and banner postings (10 points).

The city plans to select nine outstanding apartment complexes in December. For each category, one grand prize winner and two excellence award winners will be chosen. The winning complexes will receive a certificate and prizes worth up to 3 million won.

Apartment complexes wishing to participate can submit an application to the Osan City Department of Waste Management.

Lee Gwonjae, Mayor of Osan, stated, "We hope this contest will help foster a culture in which citizens voluntarily participate in reducing food waste throughout the local community," adding, "The city will actively support these efforts so that they lead to the creation of a pleasant urban environment and the realization of a carbon-neutral society."
