Seven Organizations Including Korea University and the Hangul Society Join
Connecting to Korean-Style AI Models and Services
KT has launched the "K Data Alliance" to strengthen the competitiveness of Korean-style artificial intelligence (AI). The strategy is to secure differentiated competitiveness in the AI market by sharing high-quality data that contains unique Korean expressions and socio-cultural contexts.
On July 16, KT announced that it held a signing ceremony for the "K Data Alliance" at Sofitel Ambassador Seoul in Songpa-gu, Seoul. Seven organizations participated in the event and signed the agreement, including KT, the Institute of Korean Studies at Korea University, Doosan Digital Innovation, Icecream Edu, JoongAng Ilbo, Korea Educational Broadcasting System (EBS), and the Hangul Society.
The participating organizations will operate a regular consultative body with KT at the center and share progress and achievements. They plan to continue close cooperation in the future to build data for Korean-style AI, create leading cases in Korean-style AI domains, promote and spread activities and achievements related to Korean-style AI, and conduct research in the humanities and social sciences based on Korean-style AI data.
KT plans to select content owned by each organization, process it into high-quality data, and structure it in a way that AI can learn from. This data will then be connected to Korean-style AI models and services, including KT's proprietary "Mid:eum 2.0" model, Microsoft partnership-based GPT models, and open-source models.
On this day, Nam Gilim, Research Director at the Hangul Society, emphasized, "Now that we have moved beyond the era of entering search terms to an era of directly interacting with AI, we need artificial intelligence that can properly understand and respond responsibly to the language culture, context, and communal ethics embedded in the Korean language and the sentiments of Korean people."
Oh Seungpil, Executive Vice President of Technology Innovation at KT, stated, "Korean-style AI should not only enhance the nation's AI competitiveness but also drive AI innovation for businesses and deliver practical value that people can experience in their daily lives." He added, "We will work together to ensure that the K Data Alliance becomes a key driving force for the continued advancement and practical application of Korean-style AI."
